The department of History and Political Science has a long tradition of 66 years. When the college started functioning as Arts College itself, it had offered Indian and Modern World History for Intermediate course. The department got its degree course in 1981-82. It offers UG programme in History and the duration is three years (six semesters). National seminars are arranged every year by the department to update the knowledge of teachers and students. Remedial classes are organised for weak students regularly after class hours. Counselling to the students of the department is given through the Women Cell of the College to solve the academic and personal problems and create self confidence. Training is given to the students in embroidery works, Handicraft and different types of painting (Fabric Painting, Glass Painting etc.) through Women Cell with the aim of developing the idea of “earn while they learn”. The department has a library with 1350 books. Internet facility is also available in the department for the students. Several Students of the department are enjoying the benefit of various scholarships. Radha, a student of History has received the Higher Education Scholarship from the Hon Prime Minister of India, Dr Manmohan Singh on 03-01-2010 at Trivandrum. The Department has an Alumni Association which is very active. A Heritage Museum and Social Science Lab is set up by the Department to create awareness among the students the need and importance of preserving our heritage.
